About Us
We are a group of Somalis
from different communities who felt the need to establish a national
website. Since the mid 1990s the Somali Diaspora has
been instrumental in establishing one website after another on the
Internet. Most of these sites were created to serve clan, region or other
causes. For that reason there has been a dire need to establish a website
which serves the Somali nation irrespective of clan, region or any other
categorisation.
We are proud to announce the
establishment of SomaliView to serve the Somali nation. The idea of
SomaliView was conceived in January 2005 but the site was established in
March 2006. We care about our nation and our Diaspora. We also care about
Somali human rights, freedom of press, environment, marine ecology,
forestry, conservation and other issues.
Our website is
dedicated solely to opinion, analysis, and the tracking of press coverage
about issues of concern or of interest to the Somali people. Our aim is to
encourage a constructive national debate and contribute to our nation’s
progress, understanding and awareness-building.
SomaliView was
created for the opinion of Somalis from different backgrounds and
communities in the Diaspora or back home. We welcome opinion from anyone
provided that it meets our editorial guidelines. In fairness to our readers
and contributors we shall not post divisive or inflammatory material simply
because it has been sent by a clan member. Opinion will be posted on merit,
irrespective of the ethnicity of the writer. We stand for truth,
impartiality, fair-play and wisdom and we strive to promote harmony, respect
for one another, coexistence, respect for other faiths and tolerance.
